Visa Re-Entry 2 Months Rule
Every
foreign tourist who is planning a visit to India requires an Indian visa.
Indian visa can be applied by two different methods:
Regular
Indian Visa in the form of obtaining an Indian visa by the traditional method
which includes visiting your nearby Indian consulate and submitting necessary
documents. It takes around three to five business days to attain an Indian visa
through the traditional way.
Indian
e-Visa is the form of applying and obtaining an Indian visa online. You don’t
need to visit any Consulate or Embassy while applying for an e-Visa India.
While applying for an India visa online, the applicant needs to upload all the
necessary documents and fill up the online application form. Citizens of more
than 160 countries are eligible to apply for an Indian e-Visa.
However, the
process of obtaining an Indian visa has become easier by the commencement of
e-Visa services. There has been witnessed exceptional growth in the Tourism
sector after the e-Visa services have been started. But, there are also some
rules regarding the stay, validity and permitted entries for the foreign
passport holders.
Two-Month
Gap Rule for Foreign Nationals
Initially,
the Government of India decided to have a mandatory two-month gap between the multiple visits to India by foreign
tourists. The purpose of this rule was to prevent foreign nationals to stay in
India continuously for a long period of time.
Although,
this 2-month gap on Indian tourist
visas were abolished by the Indian Government later in the year 2012. The
two-month gap rule is still applicable to the citizens of a few countries like
Pakistan, Afghanistan, China, Iran, Iraq, Bangladesh, and Sudan.
The
Former Situation of Indian Tourist Visa
Previously,
if any foreign tourist wanted to re-visit India within two months from the
first date of arrival, then they either have to apply for a re-entry permit or
take a tour to neighboring countries of India. On applying for a re-entry
permit at any Indian Visa Processing Center, you need to have a valid reason to
re-enter. While, in the second case, after taking a trip to neighboring
countries like Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Thailand, the tourist need to submit a
printed itinerary and return journey ticket to home from India, and can
re-enter in India. Re-entry Indian visa
can be permitted up to three entries to the tourists based on your need and
nationality.
